Out Dogs, and More
Along with Ye

Poems by Topic ::: Poems in Irish

The title comes from a phrase used by a woman from Ballinalee trying to clear the house during a ceilidh... the crowd knowing her refused to budge and ignored her to wind her up!!!

Stories they told of ghost and such
While sitting around their fire
And the wind did blow as the cattle did low
Outside in the byre.
And somebody a song would sing
And others would sing along
And more would politely listen
As the tuneless murdered a song.

Such were the people of their day
It was a gentler time
There was no locks upon the door
And there was little fear or crime.
What would they say of the world today
Of the drugs, and murder and stuff
That make the news and people afraid
Where even stout locks are not enough?

To be like these people of old
Who may have been simple intheir ways
There may be a connection
Between a peaeful society and one that prays.
For today in other nations
That we think of as not advanced
They have the peace that we once knew
When we in each others homes we danced.

And someone sang gob music
For there was no money for a fiddle
And the smart boy in the corner
Perplexed all with a riddle
And the woman of the house to clear it
For wanted to go to bed did she
Spoke "Out dogs... out out out...
And more go along with ye!!!"
