Call of the Wild

Poems by Topic ::: Poems in Irish

After all civilisation has stopped
And the great cities and land burns
Man to the savage reverts
As the call of the wild returns.
And against his fellow human
He turns, as if human they were not
And rhyme, justice and reason
And all else is forgot.

But it is not too long ago
When civilisation was at its height
An advanced nation stood
With Glory in its sight
And they turned on some of their people
Based on race, not based on class
And they sent them to camps and chambers
To be eradicated by gas.

So no matter how advanced we are
It is but an eyes blink
The call of the wild awakes the savage
That is closer to us than we think.
We know not if God exists
But if we have a basic belief
However foolish, it can stop the call of the wild
Creeping up on us like a thief.
